The BUSY Group operates across the traditional, ancestral and contemporary lands of many First Nations, Métis and Inuit nations. Land acknowledgements are intended to foster awareness, respect and understanding of the enduring relationships Indigenous Peoples have with their lands, waters and communities, and of our responsibilities as people who live and work within these territories.
Historically, Indigenous people did not use land acknowledgements but instead gave statements of greeting when entering another People’s territory, recognizing the hospitality extended to them, honouring the ancestors and living people who had lived on and cared for that place, and acknowledging the enduring relationship between people and their homeland. The BUSY Group’s Indigenous Affirmation is intended to honour the spirit of that tradition.
For The BUSY Group, an Indigenous Affirmation is more than a statement of place; it is an expression of relationship and respect, and a reminder that reconciliation requires continuous learning, meaningful engagement and action.
Indigenous Affirmation
The BUSY Group acknowledges that the work we undertake across Canada takes place on the traditional, ancestral and contemporary lands of First Nations, Métis and Inuit nations.
From coast to coast to coast, we recognize the distinct histories, cultures, languages and enduring relationships that Indigenous Peoples have with these lands and waters. We acknowledge the Treaties, agreements and other relationships that shape the places in which we live and work, as well as the many territories that remain unceded.
We honour the First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial and recognize their continued presence, knowledge, leadership and contributions today.
As an organization focused on education, employment, opportunity and community, The BUSY Group understands that affirmation must be accompanied by action. We are committed to building respectful and meaningful relationships with them, advancing reconciliation through our work, and creating opportunities for Indigenous people to participate, lead and thrive.
