The BUSY Group is firmly committed to the ensuring the safety and well-being of all children, young and vulnerable people, anchored in our robust safeguarding policies and practices. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to abuse of any kind, emphasising a preventive and proactive stance to foster an environment where children, young and vulnerable people feel and are safe.

Our efforts focus on the cultural safety of First Nations people, those from diverse backgrounds and people with disabilities. All staff at BUSY share the responsibility for safeguarding, are carefully selected, well-trained and supported in an open culture where safeguarding risks are actively managed and communicated.

We also collaborate with external partners to ensure a community-focused approach, enhancing well-being and securing the future of every child, young or vulnerable person.

The BUSY Group Canada (TBG, we, our, us) is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals who interact with our websites. When you submit personal information via our websites, such as through enquiry or feedback forms, program applications, or newsletter sign-ups, we will handle it in accordance with our Privacy Policy and Canada’s federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), together with applicable provincial privacy laws (including Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Quebec Law 25 and British Columbia Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA)).

This privacy collection notice applies to all entities, trading names and brands that form part of and are associated with The BUSY Group Canada including; BUSY Employment and The BUSY Schools.

What We Collect

We may collect personal information such as:

  • Your name
  • Contact details
  • Employment and education information
  • Other information you choose to provide that is relevant to your enquiry, application for services or feedback/complaint/notification (including sensitive information where you have provided your express consent)

We may also collect general information about access visits, including:

  • Server address
  • Date and time of access
  • Pages accessed
  • Information downloaded
  • Type of Internet browser used

This general information may be used in anonymous, aggregated form for statistical purposes to improve the quality and usability of our website.

Sensitive Information

‘Sensitive’ information is information that is inherently sensitive depending on the context, including about an individual’s health, finances, criminal history, racial or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religious or philosophical beliefs, or other information that could reasonably result in harm or disadvantage if misused.

We do not require sensitive information to be provided through our general enquiry, feedback or notification forms.

If you choose to provide sensitive information, we will only collect, use and store that information with your express consent, and only for the purpose of responding to your enquiry or providing the services you have requested.

Where a form allows for the free text entry of sensitive information, we will ask you to provide your express consent before submission. If express consent is not provided, any sensitive information you submit may not be used and may be de‑identified or securely deleted, where lawful and practicable.

We will not disclose your sensitive information to a third party unless:

  • you have provided express consent, or
  • the disclosure is required or authorised by law.
Why We Collect It

As required by federal and provincial legislation, we collect this information for purposes that are ‘reasonable and directly related’ to our programs and activities. These purposes may include:

  • Responding to your queries
  • Providing services or program information
  • Assessing enrolment applications
  • Investigate or resolve issues or complaints raised by you
  • Improve our offerings or considering feedback provided by you to improve our websites or services
  • Conduct related marketing activities consistent with your consent
Cookies

We may use cookies, pixels, web beacons and similar storage technologies for purposes such as:

  • Retargeting – showing ads to people who have previously visited our websites
  • Lookalike audiences – finding new users who share similar characteristics with our existing audiences
  • Customer matching – using securely hashed details (such as email or phone numbers) to deliver relevant advertising

These technologies may be used by us and trusted digital advertising partners, to deliver and measure personalised advertisements based on your prior interactions with our websites. All data used for matching is hashed, pseudonymised and processed in accordance with consent and transparency requirements under Canadian privacy and data protection laws.

Analytics & Advertising

We may use services such as:

  • Google Analytics
  • Google Ads
  • Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram)
  • Other comparable platforms/tools

We use these platforms for the purpose of helping us understand website usage and deliver relevant advertising. These tools may use tracking pixels or tags placed on our web pages to record interactions (such as page views, clicks or form submissions) for aggregated reporting and advertising optimisation.

Who We Share It With

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may disclose it to trusted service providers and digital platforms such as Google or Meta, for the purpose of:

  • Website analytics
  • Digital advertising
  • Retargeting
  • Customer matching
  • Lookalike audience creation

Any personal information shared by us is de-identified or securely encrypted prior to upload.

When completing forms within platforms not hosted on our websites (such as ‘Apply Now’ forms on Facebook) the personal or sensitive information you provide, will be shared to these platforms, some of which may store data in countries overseas, such as the United States.  By completing these forms you consent to the collection of your personal information in line with the platforms Privacy Policy, which will be provided at the time of collection. We will only use third party platforms that are bound by substantially similar privacy laws to Canada to safeguard your personal information.

Third party and cross-border disclosures are strictly limited to the extent necessary to provide these services (unless an exception applies) and are done in compliance with Canadian federal and provincial laws.

Your Choices

You can:

  1. Choose not to provide personal information or choose to provide a pseudonym (where practicable). If you choose not to provide certain personal information, we may be unable to offer you some of our services or respond to your enquiries effectively.
  2. Control cookie preferences in your browser
  3. Manage ad preferences on the platforms (e.g. https://adssettings\.google\.com or https://www\.facebook\.com/adpreferences\)
  4. Opt out of interest-based advertising via industry tools such as https://www.youronlinechoices.com.au/
  5. Unsubscribe from our mailing/marketing lists at any time by choosing unsubscribe in the communication or by contacting us on the channels outlined on this website under Contact Us.

If you opt out, we will respect your preference and, where identifiable, remove your information from audience creation and retargeting lists across our advertising platforms.

Complaints

If you believe we have breached your privacy rights, you may contact:

Modern Slavery Notification Tool

To foster an ethical and transparent culture amongst our organisation and those with whom we work, we have a Modern Slavery Notification Tool.

Accessible to anyone both internal and external to the organisation, this tool provides a safe and confidential platform to report any suspicions related to modern slavery. All voices are crucial in this fight, and BUSY are here to listen and act.
